Exporting LG’s Quick Memos

Many LG phones come with Quick Memo, a pre-installed note taking app. It’s not as good as OneNote or Evernote, but since it can’t be uninstalled, I thought I’d give it a try rather than waste precious storage space on duplicate apps. Come to find out, it handles my basic note-taking needs pretty well.

One downside, however, is that there’s no Quick Memo app for Windows. Thus, you can long-press on a note to share it with yourself (or others) via Gmail, but once you save the attachment, there’s no way to open it on your desktop or laptop. Nice.

However, after futzing with a sample file for a while, I found that the exported LQM files are just zip files, and can be opened with most compression apps. I’m a big fan of WinRAR, so here’s what a note looks like when opened in that app:

Quick Memo

As you might guess, any audio or video files saved in a memo will be located in their respective folders. Image files are saved in the “Images” folder, while text (or drawings) captured by stylus input will be saved in the “Drawings” folder:

Quick Memo Drawing

If you’d like, you can right-click an LQM file in Windows and choose Open With > WinRAR and check the “Always use this app to open these files” box to have Windows always use WinRAR (or WinZip or 7-Zip) to open the Quick Memo files.

  2. Great post and blog. I’ve been wanting to blog. Any advice? I just do so many quick memos whixh is how I got here lol. Have a good one!

  3. none of this worked for me. I have a Dell WIN 7 computer and can’t find any of the programs with which to open the Quick Memo, which I sent to myself with my LG. I’ve explored several suggestions but it just ain’t happening. Is there a free program I can install, that will allow me to open and re-save the Quick Memo?

  4. You can also extract the jpg file and find a converter to make it into a text file if you made a list and what not and wanted to edit it from a pc.

  5. After extract with winRAR, I just opened the JLQM file with notepad++.

To format the plain text note you just need to do the steps below:
Press CTRL+h, to open “replace options” box
    in “find what” insert \\n
    in “replace with” insert \n
    in search mode select “extended”
    click “replace all” button

the text part will be shown with a better and readable format.

  6. It was a sheer nightmare trying to extract my LGG2 notes from my yahoo email (after I, of course, deleted them from my phone thinking they were safe after I sent them to my email). More than 3 hrs later, I was ready to give up until I saw your post and suggestion to use WinRAR. I’m not a techie, so understanding how to do this was painful, BUT, I did it! Thank you so much for giving me just the nugget I needed to lead me to a solution. Sigh…LG should be ashamed of themselves for making something that should be simple, SO COMPLICATED.

  7. I shifted to huawei P10 LITE, and have more than 200 notes in the app quickmemo+ from my old LG G2 mini, but can’t move them to my new phone.
Any app that could open them from my email would be helpful.
Being searching for a solution, with quick memo, notepad, and others, but still in pain. Is there way to share my notes from LG to HUAWEI, cable, wireless or any other way.

  8. Dear ALL Friends just yo can open Only Image files through RAR file to extract

any one tell me how to open on pc or android mobile JLQM File we can open it.

  9. How do you open them up on a different phone? I had the LG Stylo and bought an Alcatel A30 Fierce, I backed them up into my Google drive, I also sent them via Bluetooth, but can’t seem to open them. I have 83 notes that are quite important that I don’t want to lose. Can anyone please help me to figure it out? I also downloaded a quick memo/notes app on Google play, but can’t find them in their either. Also, does anyone know how to tell if my Alcatel A30 Fierce has a clipboard on it? I can’t find it anywhere either. Thanks, Kelly

    1. Very late to the party, I’m afraid, but this might help some people. Like Jim Cofer said, you can open the QuickMemo+ app, click the menu button, then select “Share”. The app will then let you select which memos you want to export, which app on you phone you want to use, and offer to export them as PDF objects. This means you can e-mail them to yourself, then either go via your PC to transfer to the other phone, or pick up the e-mail directly on the new phone.
The big caveat here is that the file naming algorithm sucks! The file attachments will each be named QuickMemo+_yymmdd_hhmmss.pdf. Since the app creates the PDF objects REALLY fast, i.e. several per second, you can have as many as 5 or more attachments all with the same name. This is a nightmare to then download onto the target machine!

  10. I cannot find all the lqm files. I navigated to internal storage/android/data/com.lge.qmemoplus
I found a folder for “files” but most of the folders are empty. What gives?

  11. Hello! I have a question re my LG3 Quick Memo App:
What is the best way to transfer (i have very long texts) my Quick Memos onto my Laptop?
What i have managed so far is to open them as zip files with editor. However: They are in a totally non readable format. Looks like this:

So is there a way, to transfer it to another LG3 App, which is better readable on a CPU?

    Thanks in advance!

  13. Thank you Jim and kudos to Pluschap. Using info from both of you I was able to export my QuickMemo+ files to my email account. Thank you very much!
I started to download the winRAR app to unzip the PDFs but received notifications that it is NOT a free app but I don’t want to download it until I know how much it is. I’m a senior user and will only use it to back up these notes to myself. Is there a really free app you recommend instead? Thanks.

  14. Like Kathleen (Message oct 20 – 2021) – as someone said -Kinda late to the party-
But Kathleen – I use Winrar and yes it’s free – and just look closely at the windows/messages that open and move forward carefully

You can have the app for free – legally, no tricks – It’s the extended version that costs a buck or twenty.

  15. Thanks Jim;

It is now 2024, and this still seems to be an issue, especially now that LG no longer makes cell phones.

It’s frustrating that there seems to be NO good way to transfer these files to a new phone/app. Most of the so called solutions seem to be little more than work-arounds as opposed to actual solutions. (i.e., I could find no option in QM to save files as PDF files…arg!?) I’d be OK with it if I only had a couple of files, I could simply type them into a new/different app on my new phone, but I have several dozen. The WinRAR is an interesting solution, but quite honestly, it is still a work around. (saving severl dozen jpg files, one at a time…hmmm?)

It would have been nice if LG, knowing it was going to stop making cell phones, would have offered a solution themselves. Oh well.

    Thanks for listening,
    Wayne
